What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Natural Steps Albany, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“We absolutely adore Natural Steps in Albany. After originally being enrolled in another centre (and visiting about 30, no joke!), we were recommended to visit Natural Steps by another mom in my daughter’s sensory class. From the moment I called them to book in a tour, they have been fantastic. The teachers are very loving and my daughter now loves going to daycare after a few months of settling in. Grace, the centre manager is great, she’s always so understanding and helps out where she can. They have the best food too!! I couldn’t recommend this place enough ☺️❤️”
“I cannot speak more highly of the staff at natural steps. Our 14m son, Finn, has been with them for just over a month (after a bad experience settling elsewhere - my advice, go with your gut!). His development has come in leaps and bounds since starting there. Every teacher in the Pipi room has a lovely bond with him and you can tell they genuinely care about the babies (as does the clinic manager!) - just lovely human beings. He has even squirmed out of my loving arms to get to his key teacher Bex! He has been unable to attend for a week and it has just reinforced how much they are now a huge part of our village (we didn’t really have much of one). I was SO anxious about him going to daycare (especially after the previous place red flags) - but now I can’t imagine not having him there. He absolutely loves it. He loves the play focussed learning and nature there too. Also a special shout out to their chef who goes out of her way to prepare vegan food for him specially, not once did they make us feel a nuisance. Just go and have a tour, you’ll see what I mean. Pics are him there via their app just look at the smile.”
“My daughter is really happy here, and we’ve had such a great experience. The teachers are caring, creative, and passionate—you can tell they truly love what they do. The space is big and welcoming, with plenty of room for kids to play and explore. The facilities are great too. Definitely recommend!”
“I could not be happier with this daycare! My 11month old twins have been attending 3 days a week for the past few weeks and I am so happy with the decision to send them there. The teachers are all amazing with the kids, they do so much with them and have been super consistent with what we do at home around sleep times which I was a bit worried about to start with. Imogen always helps me in the mornings getting out of the car if she's around and the food is better then they have at home! They have an app which they update to the minute with what they have eaten, how they slept, nappy changes etc They are so accommodating and well priced too. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for an amazing daycare”
“I cannot speak highly enough of Natural Steps Albany. My son was enrolled with them before he was born to start attending from 5.5 months. When he was born and the start date was looming, I was very anxious and the staff could not have been more supportive to my barrage of questions. My son has settled very well there and at nearly 12 months old I cannot believe how much he has developed in their care. He is becoming such a confident little boy. What I love the most is the whanau care provided and how everyone mucks in together. As a mum from the UK, without any family here for support, Natural Steps have filled that gap and we cannot thank them enough for all their love and support to our family unit. Absolutely love the place :-)”
