What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Little Pohutukawa Preschool, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“As a mother , I couldn’t be more grateful for the entire team at Little Pohutukawa. The teachers, manager, and owner — everyone is simply amazing. From the beginning, I’ve seen such a positive change in my baby, and I truly believe it’s all because of the love, care, and dedication this team puts in every single thing they do. A heartfelt THANK YOU to all the amazing teachers, and a very special thank you to the owner for building such a beautiful space for our little ones.”
“It was an amazing daycare with great teachers before the new owner came onboard in November 2024. Most of the good teachers left within three months, the menu was changed to cut costs and the children were always hungry, air conditioning was not turned on during summer save on power, we were wrongly charged for holiday payments and was never resolved by the owner. In the end we had to urgently find new daycare and it was a very stressful time. Maybe things have changed since then but I feel much safer with my child in the current daycare than Little Pohutukawa.”
“My husband and I are so happy with our experience at Little Pohutukawa for our little boy. The facility itself is excellent, it’s always clean, bright, and open, which gives such a welcoming and safe feeling. You can tell they take real pride in keeping everything spotless and organised. The staff are absolutely amazing. Every teacher we've met is kind, patient. They take the time to build real connections with the children and it shows in how excited our son is to see them every morning. I can’t say enough about his teachers; Navdeep, Anna and Melody. They are truly amazing “mums” to my boy. The owner “Roslyn” and the manager “Laurelle” are both amazing, wonderfully approachable, professional, and always available to answer questions or offer support. It’s clear they’ve created a culture of care and respect that flows through the entire daycare. One of the standout features for us is the outdoor area. It’s spacious, well-maintained, and filled with fun and engaging activities for the children. Our son absolutely loves spending time outside there, and we love that he gets to enjoy fresh air and physical activity every day in such a safe and adventurous environment. Overall, we couldn’t be happier. It’s a huge comfort to know our child is in such good hands in a clean, safe, and nurturing environment. Highly recommend to any parent looking for quality childcare!”
“We absolutely love Little Pōhutukawa Preschool! Our son started a couple of months ago and had a bit of a tough transition, since he had mostly been around adults and wasn't used to being with other kids. But the wonderful team at the preschool welcomed him with so much care and patience. He has blossomed in such a short time! He absolutely loves the 5-star food menu, and every day he comes home happy after playing and learning with his lovely teachers and new friends. We’re so grateful to have found such a nurturing and positive environment for him!!”
“We absolutely love Little Pohutukawa! The teachers are incredible – always warm, friendly, and genuinely invested in the kids’ wellbeing. Both of our children attend and absolutely love going to “school” each day. It’s such a comfort knowing they’re in a caring, nurturing, and fun environment. We’ve seen them thrive and grow so much thanks to the amazing team. We would highly recommend Little Pohutukawa to any parents considering childcare.”
