Picking the right childcare for your little one can be a daunting task. Here at Littlies, we want to make this process as easy as possible, giving you all the information you need to choose the best option for your child.
When looking for a childcare option for our son, we were overwhelmed by the various choices available – childcare centres, kindergartens, home based care, nannies – and the questions just grew from there:
- How is a childcare centre different from a kindergarten?
- What sort of ratios are good anyway?
- Why call it 20 hours free childcare if you don’t actually give me 20 hours free?
- Should all the staff be qualified or is 80% okay?
It took us a while to understand all our options and what would work best for us as a family.

Behind the name
Since the early days of pregnancy, I called my son my “little one”, telling him how much I loved him and that I was going to take good care of him. Soon after he was born, I would carry a muslin cuddly, then give it to him at bedtime, so he could feel close to me while he slept. When he was about nine months old, our son informed us that his cuddly was called “Littlie” and the name has stuck ever since. We’ve decided to use the same name for this website, trusting that other people will love our littlies and care for them as much as we do.
