About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Learning Edge Montessori Preschool, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“This preschool is such a gem. We feel so lucky to have found it. From the moment our son started, he has been surrounded by such genuine care, energy, and creativity. The teachers go above and beyond, nurturing each child, helping them grow in confidence, curiosity, and kindness. They work so hard to foster a sense of community and a thoughtful learning environment. We are so grateful to the teachers for their energy and mahi.”

“My son started at Learning Edge when he just turned two. We like this centre. They have very experienced Montessori teachers with 20+ years of experience. They have a full range of Montessori teaching/learning materials. (I guess 1,000+ pieces of materials by a quick look at their storage room. ) Their teaching team is very stable and the teachers have been working there at least 10 years or 20+ years. (I feel a stable teaching team is very important to children’s learning and caring.) They have a very inclusive culture. They really understand and respect different cultures and our values and beliefs. For example, we Chinese culture believes in giving children warm food and drink, and the teachers respect this and support our needs. We like this small, homely, warm centre. My son is happy there, and we also found a sense of belonging with its community.”

“I can't recommend it highly enough. A wonderful school where the personal warmth of the teachers enabled my son to settle in really quickly. The educational programme is engaging and meaningful, with lots of one-on-one time with teachers who make regular, relevant observations. There's a nice school community and my child made many good friends. He thrived here, and was always busting to tell me about everything he'd learnt and done when he got home. They gave excellent support over lockdown with learning themes and craft ideas that were achievable at home. Very sad to leave.”

“What you want for your kids is an environment where they can learn and develop the life skills they will need for the next 80 years or so. This is a place that meets all this. My son comes out with a smile, is happy to tell about all the things he has done and learnt. The team of teachers is very knowledgeable and warm. The Montessori curriculum is exceptional in getting the kids to learn and develop their own logical reasoning while going through the activities proposed. There is sooo much I could tell about this pre-school, only recommending it does not show the depth of recognition I feel for them.”
