About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Kaurilands Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“A fantastic kindy that really does live up to it's name as a community kindy. Lovely staff, lovely parents and a great bunch of little people. My daughter went here for a year when we moved into the area and didn't know anyone. Now a year on, and my little girl is at school, and my son is at kindy. We now see friendly faces everywhere we go all thanks to our kindy. It's pretty simple, if the kids and teachers are happy then they have the winning formula!”

“My eldest son attended this kindy and now my middle boy is going soon to be followed by my youngest son. Which speaks volumes I think. We've been involved with the kindy for several years. We're lucky to live nearby and have made new friends and even gotten to know our neighbours better as a result. Meaning we're (kindy folk) a social community minded bunch... Supporting and contributing. The space is large and open. The teachers are passionate and consistent...I find the focus on supporting the children to learn through play the best feature...The skills and confidence fostered through child led independent play sets the kids up for life. What more could a parent ask for.”

“My 4 year old son has recently started at Kaurilands Kindy and I just can't tell you enough how much I LOVE this kindy! From the moment we walked through the doors we were warmly welcomed and treated with respect and kindness. There is a huge range of activities for the children to take part in which are added to and switched around daily. It is a nurturing environment with highly experienced teachers who observe the children's interests and react accordingly. The space allows the kids to flow from one activity to the next and there is always an air of calm. The children are treated as individuals and encouraged to do things for themselves in order to become capable and independent learners. The focus is on learning through play and the teachers see learning opportunities in everything the kids do. They organise field trips to enhance discussions they have been having and do big projects around the children's interests. There is a very strong community spirit at the kindy and I cannot recommend it highly enough.”
