About Free Kindergarten

Free Kindergartens typically offer sessional or part-day early learning programmes led by fully qualified teachers, following Te Whāriki and emphasising learning through play, social interaction, and community involvement. These centres cater to families seeking high-quality education in a not-for-profit, community-based setting with strong ties to local whānau.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Waimauku Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Hands down best decision to send my kids here. The teachers are so dedicated and have created such an amazing community spirit within the centre. They all cheered on my child during toilet training and all the kids encourage each other to get up and tell news. Both of my boys confidence has grown so much over the past 2 years. I will forever be grateful to the amazing team at Waimauku Kindy for being part of my kids village - helping to raise them with integrity, empathy and confidence to send them off to school. Love love love this place!”

“Awesome awesome kindy. We moved to the area at the start of this year and we moved our son here from another kindy. Loved our old kindy but we love this one even more. Teachers are amazing - caring, professional but relaxed and friendly. Fantastic range and quality of resources and a lovely garden and outdoor space. My son has the best time here.”
