Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Titirangi Rudolf Steiner Kindergarten 1, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Our family moved to NZ and wanted a change from the mainstream education that our kids had grown up in. Our oldest daughter was starting to become anxious about the ultra competitive pressures that schooling brought on in the UK. Her transition to Steiner was seamless and she is now a much happier kid in all aspects of her life. Her 4 siblings have also thrived and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The school does come with some shortfalls such as the lack of facilities and grandiose buildings, but the trade off is an education that I feel will turn my kids into well balanced and functional members of society. It also helps being in a school where technology is shunned, making it easier to keep my kids off devices and especially social media, which has always worried me.”

“We enrolled our kids into the school 3 years ago and we are so happy about that decision. They love to learn in a playful way. I appreciate that they do a lot of creative activities using their hands (not tablets). They are surrounded by nature and kind loving approach of all the teachers. The school has such a lovely community.”

“The TRSS Kindergarten is a very special place. Our daughter's teachers model deep listening with patience and tenderness. Working with rhythms of the day and the week, and seasonal cycles of the year, they support our children in forming a deep relationship to nature, and in the process discover who they are and their place in the world. We can only hope that all children experience the healing effect of being truly listened to and nurtured in this way.”

“We are so grateful for the amazing experience our 6-year-old is having at Titirangi Steiner School! The way they nurture creativity and imagination is incredible, and their focus on hands-on learning aligns so well with our values. The Ngahere program, which gives the kids access to nature, has been such a highlight—our son is thriving in this environment. Watching him grow through the Steiner philosophy, with its beautiful emphasis on nature, play, and creativity, has been such a joy! 🌿✨”
