About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at The Ridge Childcare, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Oscar Holiday program: My son on his first day is been hurt by one of the kids, when no one was supervising. His fault? He did not report to the teachers but he did it when I picked him up, I reported straight away, to supervisor and manager. The manager explanation was that 'boys play rough', really? At the end they said the Oscar program is not suitable for my son, and the kid that hurt him is still there! This is the way it works: naughty kid welcome, kid abused not welcome, just because we spoke up! It does not matter when an abuse is reported it is always an abuse. The way management actioned the issue was completely wrong! Anyway, doesn't look kids are supervised at all times. I love my son that's why I am not sending him there anymore. Do you love your kids? Keep looking for another Holiday program.”
