About Te Kōhanga Reo
Te Kōhanga Reo centres are Māori immersion environments committed to the revitalisation of te reo Māori, with learning led by whānau and grounded in kaupapa Māori. They cater to families who want their tamariki fully immersed in Māori language and cultural practices, fostering strong identity, confidence, and intergenerational language transmission.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Te Kōhanga Reo o Arohanui ki Te Tangata Marae Trust, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“We are deeply humbled and grateful for the welcome we received today at Waiwhetū Marae. It was an honour to spend time on your whenua, and to meet the incredible people who carry its mana. A very special thank you to Matiu Tahi — your kōrero was enlightening, funny, and moving. Your wisdom has given Ciara and Grady something truly meaningful to carry forward on their new journey. We feel lucky to have crossed paths with you. To Peggy — thank you for your patience and kindness in helping arrange our visit, despite my flurry of texts! We so appreciate your time and generosity. To all the iwi and whānau we encountered — thank you for opening your hearts and Marae to us. We hope to see you again. Ngā mihi nui mō tō koutou manaaki me te mātauranga. Ka kite anō. “A beautiful, historic marae”
“Absolutely amazing. Kura whaikorero was excellent. So good to be home 💚🖤💚”
“Nestled in the heart of Waiwhetu - Waiwhetu Marae is five minutes drive from Hutt City centre. The traditional carved marae, Te Ati Awa, is available for seminars, functions and educational visits. I love coming to Waiwhetu Marae - I have visited this marae on numerous occasions mainly being hui/meetings and the odd tangihanga. The kitchen is impeccably run and the kai they put on for the manuhiri is also top notch and rest assured you are very well fed. The grounds and buildings are well maintained and always very clean - It truely is a beautiful well cared for marae.”
