About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Steps to Strides Early Learning Centre, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“I felt that the choice of daycare for our then 10 month old was a huge one which would have a lasting impact on our daughter's life. 9 months later, and I'm so happy with our decision to have chosen Tracey and team at Steps to Strides - communication is very open and we trust them implicitly to take care of our daughter and foster her growth and development. Surprisingly I don't even have mum guilt (as so many can!) from enrolling her full time because I know she gets far more development out of all the amazing activities and interaction than I could ever provide her. She is so content there from being so nurtured.”

“My 6 month old has been going to Steps to Strides for about a month now and Tracey and the team have been amazing. I was anxious about returning to work but after spending 3 weeks with them (transition period) I was comfortable knowing my child would be well cared for. My son didn’t have a set routine but Tracey and the team were happy to work around his schedule. He is struggling to take the bottle but Tracey is happy to keep trying and finding new methods to ensure he is getting the milk he needs throughout the day. I know it hasn’t been easy but Thank you Tracey and team for going the extra mile.”

“Our 2 year old daughter started in August when we needed a day care nearer home. We've had a fantastic experience from the very start. I did 3 visits with my daughter, with my almost 5 year old son in tow each time, and Tracey and the team were always so friendly and welcoming. We were even invited to stay for lunch one day. Each visit was much longer than I'd anticipated because my children were enjoying themselves so much they didn't want to leave! This paid off, as on her first full day there, my daughter barely looked up to say goodbye when we dropped her off. Tracey is a dedicated and passionate teacher who respects the children and is always finding new ways to encourage their interests. I love how there are different activities set up on the tables each morning. There is always so much for the kids to do. My daughter is really happy here. This is a fantastic centre which is very inclusive and friendly with lots of personal touches. Tracey has brought in toys from home for the kids to use. Tracey and Dave have great relationships with parents as well as older siblings who come along to drop off or pick up. I highly recommend Steps to Strides.”
