About Little Sparks
About Education & Care Service
Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Little Sparks, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“After several enquiries around Pukekohe, we found our preference and have now been enrolled at Little Sparks for about 6 months and we absolutely love it here! We live in Onewhero and make the daily commute - because it's worth it! A safe and nurturing home away from home for both my boys. A small centre with dedicated staff who provide rich learning experiences through lots of play, music, risk taking and most importantly MANAAKITANGA! E mihi ana kia koe e Jo and your amazing team of staff for looking after our whānau xx”
“My youngest son attended here for 2 years and we loved the homely feel and lovely staff. There wasn't much staff turnover so my son got to know each teacher. We always felt welcome and I got to know some of the amazing teachers myself. The Centre owner was amazing to speak with and played a key role in my sons day to day life while in attendance. Beautiful little centre, thank you so much for your integral role in my little guys early years. Highly recommend Little Sparks”
“I was lucky enough to have been with Jo and her team from the start of Jo taking over Little Sparks. I have never ever been more grateful for anything in my life. She and her team are the kindest, most understanding people you will ever meet. I didn’t want to even take my kids to primary school. Jo didn’t just become the manager of my children’s centre, she became a very close friend and a very important person in our kids story of how they have got to where they are now. I will forever be grateful of little sparks and everything they did for me, and I am still sad that our chapter there has ended ❤️❤️”
“Little Sparks is our kids home away from home. There is a wonderful mix of teachers (both male and female) that all bring something different to the kids education journey from painting to woodwork to jumping in puddles. I love how they do so much learning through play. It is a small centre that has the ability to give personalised attention to the children. One of our favourite things about little sparks is the amount of time the kids spend outdoors. Our family have been with little sparks for 3 years and still have baby #2 who started her daycare journey this year. I had so much confidence sending baby #2 to daycare knowing what a fantastic environment and staff she was going to. We highly recommend little sparks for your little one!”
“We are super pleased that we allowed our boy to choose Little Sparks as his learning space. We appreciate that he could be himself - to discover, explore, chat, play, learn, care and friendship in his own way. It really felt like an extention of our home. They are welcoming, friendly and provide an pleasant environment for our boy. We loved loved that there was a male teacher. So remarkable! Having males around bring so many different tools, skills and abilities to the learning environment. It was fantastic for our son to have a male role model to learn from and relate too. Thanks Little Sparks for the fond cherished memories 🥰”
