What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. “My son stayed with Kidsfirst Northcote for only a year but he has been very happy there. He especially loved learning about sign language which he still remembers and does at home even if he’s in big school now. Loved the teachers who were very experienced and nurturing. Loved their big outdoor play area. Thank you, Phillipa, Cath and Helen ❤️”

“My two children attended this centre. We choose it originally because it has an large outdoor space, with a great outdoor playground, a big sandpit, vegetable garden, lots of grass areas and lovely bushes and tress which offer endless oportunities for children to play and explore. We quickly learnt that the teachers are very experienced and truly committed to delivering high quality care and education. They work hard to build strong relationships with tamariki and whanau, making everyone feel welcome and create a strong sense of belonging.”
