About Free Kindergarten

Free Kindergartens typically offer sessional or part-day early learning programmes led by fully qualified teachers, following Te Whāriki and emphasising learning through play, social interaction, and community involvement. These centres cater to families seeking high-quality education in a not-for-profit, community-based setting with strong ties to local whānau.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Kidsfirst Kindergartens Beckenham, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“The review from “Jerry Kramer” just goes to show why only 3% of ECE teachers are male. It is so easy for people to make vague insinuations in a public forum! We have found our contact with Beckenham kindy to be really good with no safety concerns. If anyone is interested I would urge them to read up about male teachers in early childhood, the benefits of this, and myths about this. In short, people with real safety concerns do not manage these concerns by posting a Google review, they involve proper authorities.”

“A fabulous place where children have so much fun and laughter learning together through play. The teachers are caring and supportive working closely with parents as the tamariki start their kindy journey. The environment is engaging with interesting set ups that allow creativity and imagination to flourish ! In the school holidays my little one was waking up asking “kindy day now , kindy day now “ - to me that says it all. Thanks Beckenham kindy team, you are awesome!”
