About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Khandallah Community Creche, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“We feel incredibly lucky to be part of the Khandallah Community Creche whānau. From day one, the team has made us feel so welcome and supported. The low child-to-teacher ratios, along with the most exceptional teachers, mean every child is truly known and cared for which makes such a difference. “Tuatara Time” for the over 3s has been an absolute highlight and is truly treasured by the tamariki. It’s such a clever, age-appropriate way to foster learning, build independence and confidence, and get kids excited for the next step in their learning journey. The Crèche is an absolute gem and a real asset to the northern suburbs. As a community-based and not-for-profit centre, the fact that this creche continues to thrive today is a testament to just how special it is. We couldn’t recommend Khandallah Community Creche more highly.”

“We started our daughter at Khandallah Creche at the age of 2 when we had a new arrival in our house. I thought it’d be great to have a break from the relentlessnes of two small children in the house. It turns out that Creche has given my daughter so much more than I thought it would give me. Her social skills blossomed and she quickly made her very best friends that she has now gone on to kindy with too. The education she is getting in the special ‘Tuatara Group’ is much more than I could give at home and she loves the extra stimulation. It’s a beautiful nurturing environment and the teachers are absolutely amazing. We love being part of the Creche community and can’t wait to send number two there very soon!”

“Our family has loved this creche from the moment the kids started there. The environment is so nurturing and caring that my two felt very safe and happy to stay - in fact they ask to go to creche on days off! The small teacher ratio means they get lots of focused attention and the kids have a lovely relationship with the staff, often talking about them constantly. We have found the educational Tuatara sessions for the older kids particularly wonderful and often creates a topic of further discussion and exploration at home. This is the perfect start for little ones.”

“All 3 of my children went through this Creche and absolutely loved it! It is the perfect setting to leave your little ones for the first time as the really high staff ratios mean there is always someone available to spend extra time with your children: helping them settle and feel secure in a new environment. Thoroughly recommended”
