What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. “I started at Glen Innes Playcentre with my son when he was 17 months old, feeling like we needed more than just a playgroup. I wanted somewhere he could get some different experiences than at home but got so much more. He has thrived at Playcentre two days a week with me, and now his favourite part of the week is the Big Kids session for over threes on a Thursday which he attends without me. His baby brother now comes with us too. Glen Innes Playcentre is our home away from home and we have all formed great friendships. With the range of children aged between 0-6 years, it's like being part of a big family. The kids love all the resources and activities that the creative parents set up for them, following their interests and taking their lead. I was particularly drawn to the Playcentre at Glen Innes because of it's lovely outdoor space with playground equipment, undercover sandpit, sensory garden, and large grassy area to run around and play. There are three free visits available so come and check it out! There's nothing to lose!”

“Glen Innes Playcentre is a fun, friendly and welcoming playcentre where you can take part in the educating of your pre-schoolers with like minded people. I enjoyed nearly 6 years here with my two children and it became a big part of mine and my children's lives. It is definitely worth checking out and going for a visit!”

“GI Playcentre has become almost a second home to me and my boys. We've been members for 3 years now. I can't even name all the good things...I'll try though. Great outdoor area, roofed sandpit and playground, so available whole year through. Nice indoor area and overall great equipment being constantly updated to meet children's needs and provide quality learning. Awesome parents with enthusiastic approach, being great role models for our children. Learning through play. Hours and hours spent playing with my children, their friends and chatting with other mums. Family atmosphere of lovely mums who share their parenting journey together through good and bad times and are always ready to offer support where it's needed. We've moved to New zealand three years ago and Playcentre really has become our new family. When my younger child was born, we were donated so much baby gear and clothes and have received amazing support. In the forst weeks after he was born, the ladies even made a roster and were cooking dinners for us! In my personal experience, it's impossible not to love Glen Innes Playcentre.”

“I had my name on the waiting list for Ellerslie Playcentre but thought I'd check out Glen Innes in the meantime. I instantly preferred the facilities at Glen Innes, especially the very large outdoor play area so promptly took my name off the Ellerslie waitlist and never looked back! The other mums have fantastic experience in running fun and interesting sessions with a real focus on learning and being part of the playcentre family. From 'car wash' days to building functioning volcanos in the sandpit to building confidence courses designed by the kids themselves, there is never a dull moment! The other mothers are welcoming and supportive and are always ensuring the playcentre has up to date equipment. If you have a young baby, they are very accommodating and your duties are tailored to suit. There's no denying it is quite a commitment becoming a playcentre mum but if you are going to do it anywhere, I recommend Glenn Innes Playcentre!”

“I was rather unsure when someone suggested Glen Innes Playcentre. However, I had had a few positive recommendations so thought I'd check it out. I was very impressed with both the facility and the warm, welcoming people. My 22 month old son & 7 month old daughter were instantly at home. We all LOVED going along two mornings a week. I very much enjoyed the friendships it gave me and the support of other mums to share both the good and bad times parenting brings! Along with the quality time I was able to spend with my children. I also enjoyed the opportunities it gave me for additional learning and attended some very informative and fun classes. I have now returned to full time work so had to leave playcentre with great sadness, however blessed with lifetime friendships. And if there happens to be a baby number 3 I'll be back for sure!”
