About Free Kindergarten

Free Kindergartens typically offer sessional or part-day early learning programmes led by fully qualified teachers, following Te Whāriki and emphasising learning through play, social interaction, and community involvement. These centres cater to families seeking high-quality education in a not-for-profit, community-based setting with strong ties to local whānau.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Fonua 'Alaha Manongi Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“I have two boys currently attending FAM and they absolutely love it😀 The teachers are all so lovely and welcoming and I don’t even stress when the boys have had a bad morning and have a cry when I’m trying to leave as the ladies come and take them away.My 3yr old has learnt so much and loves singing the Tongan songs he’s learnt at school too.Highly recommend🩵”

“My twins Luti and Seini started at Fonua 'Alaha Manongi Kindergarten around October 2023. This has been the best decision I have made because my twins love it there:) Luti and Seini has learnt so much and never want to miss a day. The twins are more confident they go on about their day when its pickup time and also let our family know what they have learnt for the day. I see a huge improvement on how they engage with other kids, learn to share and ask for things instead of crying for it. They love their teachers just as much as I do lol Ema, Kase and Lupe I see how much use work hard for the kids and everything use do for them 5x a week it never goes unnoticed. Thank you for the wonderful job use do:)”
