About Fairleigh Kindergarten
About Education & Care Service
Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Fairleigh Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“We were new to Christchurch when our son started at Fairleigh Kindergarten in January 2017. We chose Fairleigh because of the caring staff, range of activities on offer and because all the kids seemed very happy when we visited the kindy. We also like the fact that it is a community based not for profit kindergarten. The Fairleigh kindy community (parents, teachers and children) has been amazingly welcoming to our family and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Fairleigh to anyone.”
“Our son has enjoyed Fairleigh kindergarten since the beginning of 2018. His growth in ability and knowledge have been a pleasure to witness. Fairleigh has catered so well for him and the staff continue to challenge and expose him to a well-structured style of learning yet allow for the freedom in his play with others. We've been impressed with the calm and attentive nature of the staff which then transfers to the overall environment for our son.”
“We chose Fairleigh because it offered something different - being independent and not-for-profit, made it feel really focused on families and community. The teachers are really caring, observant and proactive and we've loved seeing our children's curiosity and independence grow during their time here. My daughter loved starting her day at the painting easels before heading outside to the monkey bars. While my son loves that he can have a story to start the day then head out to the diggers in the huge sandpit. There's loads on offer! Highly recommend.”
“Our son loves going to Fairleigh, especially spending time in the great outdoor area and the bike track. The teachers have been amazing in supporting his development and progress towards school. He has enjoyed having such a stable team and their communication with us has been outstanding. We would definitely recommend Fairleigh to anyone looking for the best start to education for their children.”
“A wonderful kindergarten. The kids have heaps of free imaginative play time. The teachers are fantastic - engaged with the children and seem to really care about the well being and happiness of the kids in their care. As it is independent and not for profit it has a great community feel. So glad we found Fairleigh.”
