About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Busy Bees Ruakaka, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Amazing teachers, who go above and beyond for the children. I have had my son attend since he was 11 months old and he has loved it. He has learnt a lot and done so much. The kindy trips are awesome.”

“Have had 3 children go here started at 2yrs, 3yrs and 10mths as small poppies then moved into busy bees as the crntre renamed. The kaiako are amazing and care about the tamariki. Providing more opportunities of learning a time goes on, with having a garden to share with whanau, tamariki learn to grow veges, collect eggs from chickens and now have pet bunnies to help care for. The 4 yr old program is great aswell taking their learning into the community. I recommend busy bees highly.”

“Both my daughters attended Small Poppies from babies right through to school. They both absolutely loved it there! They were lucky to have such caring and passionate teachers who guided their learning and interests with fun experiences. They have gone to school confident, able and with knowledge of themselves as capable learners in all areas. The friendships they made at Poppies have continued on through school. A wonderful Early Childhood experience for both my girls.”

“I have two children at poppies and we love it, both have been going since they were 3 months old. The teachers are lovely, the play area is kept tidy, the kids learn to sit nicely together and eat meals.”
