About BestStart Grey Lynn
About Education & Care Service
Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at BestStart Grey Lynn, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“We love BestStart Grey Lynn! The educators in the Te Waka room are wonderful! They are so loving and caring, and go above and beyond to make sure all of the children feel safe and supported. My son has so much fun playing and learning every day!”
“We could not fault our experience with Best Start Grey Lynn. The teachers are all so lovely and friendly and really care for our baby. They give us regular updates as to how she is settling in and we are confident that they will keep her safe and happy when we are at work”
“My daughter started going to Best Start Grey Lynn when she was about 13-14 months old. With the genuine love and care provided by the wonderful team (back then led by Kirsten L), my daughter quickly settled in well. When the team leader changed last December, I was initially worried. However, the transition was seamless, and my daughter still loves going to daycare. Each day is filled with fun activities, evident from the preparations (that I see when I drop my kid off) and updates on Storypark. I asked my daughter once, whether she wants to stay home with me or go to Best Start, and she answered she wants to play at the centre (ahaha). In addition, the food provided is cooked by a wonderful chef, Daisy, who comes to the center daily, ensuring nutritious and delicious meals for the kids. I trust this place completely with my child’s care, especially when I am at work, knowing she is well taken care of. The current team leader, Cherrie C, along with other teachers in the same team (Josie and Indra + the regular reliever, Florence), frequently update me on how my daughter is doing, which makes me feel more secure and included as part of this community. I highly recommend this place if you have children under two (note: my daughter is still under two) and need reliable childcare or some personal time. I believe my daughter has developed her social skills by interacting with her teachers and friends, and has learned a lot from the various activities provided by the centre.”
“My daughter has been attending this daycare for a little over two months. Despite her shyness, with the help of the teachers, she has already made friends, gained confidence, and eagerly participates in play with the other children and teachers. The teachers are extremely passionate about their work, keeping the children engaged with a wide variety of interesting activities so that they never get bored.”
“When my two year old boy started this centre, the teachers in the baby room made a lot of efforts to get to know him and to settle him. My son's primary care giver even changed her shift to be there to make him comfortable at drop off time in his first week. Now he is in over 2 room, he really loves being able to play in the rain with his raincoat and gumboots on. I love this centre's focus on sustainability.”
