About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Tuatara Kids, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“We couldn’t be happier with how our girl is doing at daycare. The kaiako are sweet and supportive and share their fantastic knowledge on child development. They always tell me something about my girls day which makes me feel like I have been part of it. The daycare has great resources and the creative kaiako have always set up a new exciting activity each morning which immediately engages the children. At Tuatara we feel part of a lovely community that is totally focused on the wellbeing of my child. She’s thriving!”

“My daughter has been at Tuatara Kids for 18 months now and I couldn’t recommend the centre enough. She settled in so quickly, and has always talked fondly of Tuatara. The kaiako are all incredible; teaching, guiding and caring for all the tamariki, and creating such a safe, special and warm environment. Tuatara Kids feels like an extension of our whānau and I feel so grateful to have such an amazing centre to send my daughter too. We’ve also made great connections with other Tuatara whānau and it feels like our very own village. We love Tuatara Kids so much!”

“I would like to share my wonderful experience with Tuatara Kids. My daughter has been at Tuatara from 10 months old and one and a half years on we still believe that Tuatara is the best daycare for our daughter and we would be hard-pressed to move. From the very beginning, we have been overjoyed with the care and attention our daughter has received from the kaiako and older tamariki. The lead teacher, Kayla, has been fantastic, always present, keen to share what my daughter has learnt for the day and available directly through the Storypark app if we need up-to-date info on our daughter. Kayla’s consistent feedback and communication have been invaluable in keeping us informed about our daughter's progress and anything we need to know about upcoming events if we would like to be involved like the weekly hīkoi. One of the best aspects of Tuatara Kids is their practical approach to managing children's belongings. They advised us not to bring anything sentimental, as it's understandable that kids can lose things. This sensible guidance has helped us avoid any unnecessary concerns. We receive regular stories and updates about our daughter, including detailed reports, videos and pictures of her development and journey. It's heartwarming to see how safe and welcome she feels at Tuatara and with all the Kaiako, which has significantly contributed to her emotional and developmental growth. Our daughter is excited to go to daycare each day, where she has made strong friendships with children of all ages. She is always eager to see me at the end of the day and proudly shows me the activities she has been doing. In terms of administration, we have received some issues with invoicing when we needed to take Hannah out for three weeks during our holiday and arranging a half-fees discount, but we got there in the end, I guess that is the pain point in a lot of small businesses. Overall, our experience with Tuatara Kids has been exceptional, and we are grateful for the care and nurturing support they provide and the beautiful community we have with the other parents where we support and celebrate outside of daycare too.”

“We recently moved to Wellington & are so grateful to the Tuatara Kids careers for welcoming our girl into their centre with open arms. This was our first time putting our two year old into a daycare & doing so in a new city felt overwhelming and nerve racking as first time parents. The Tuatara Kids educators provided a warm, gentle & gradual settling process into the centre and the visits that we did before her official start date were so appreciated and helpful in her transition. The communication has been amazing & the bond that our child has built with a few of the staff is so special. She is happy, engaged, safe & stimulated at Tuatara kids. We could not be more grateful for their hard work in providing such a nurturing space for the kids to thrive. I could not recommend this centre more highly!”

“Tuatara Kids has been such a friendly and supportive childcare centre. We came from a much larger centre which was more chaotic and busy. Coming into Tuatara was such a breath of fresh air, the kids are noticeably happy and have a lot of fun together. The kaiako are so warm and welcoming and we have always had a seamless experience with the administrative side of things. Because it’s a smaller centre there’s a really nice community feel to it and we’ve gotten to know a lot of lovely families through our child’s friends at TK. Can’t rate highly enough!”
