What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Trentham Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Enrolling my daughter in kindergarten was an exciting and transformative experience. The teachers are highly skilled, patient, and genuinely care about each child’s development. They use a variety of engaging methods like storytelling, hands-on activities, and interactive games—to teach essential skills like reading, dancing, music, social interaction, and etiquettes. The children are encouraged to express themselves, build friendships, and learn important values like sharing and caring. Overall, this kindergarten has been a wonderful start to my daughter's educational journey. It’s clear that the teachers and staff are dedicated to making learning enjoyable while laying a solid foundation for future success.”
