About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at The Learning Ladder, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“We've had two of our kids at The Learning Ladder over the past 3 years (and our third will be joining soon!), and we honestly couldn't be happier. We originally found them through Google, and they were the first to respond—super quick and helpful. After doing a walkthrough, we just had a really good feeling about the place. The centre manager is amazing—really switched on, friendly, and clearly runs things well. The owner is also absolutely lovely and clearly cares about the centre and the families there. You can tell the whole team is genuinely passionate about what they do. The indoor and outdoor play areas are great, and every teacher we've come across has been fantastic. They're always focused on the kids, never on their phones or distracted, and they’re really tuned in to each child’s needs. It's also been great to see the same familiar faces year after year—there's not a constant turnover of key staff, which was really important to us. We wanted our kids to feel safe and have people around them they know and trust. Security is tight (in a good way!) and there are regular checks to make sure everything is as it should be. The centre is clean, well-kept, and the daily schedule is super well-organized. The communication is also spot on—we always feel informed and up to date, whether it’s about daily routines, upcoming events, or anything happening with our kids. We also really appreciate their sick policy—especially with a baby at home. And the fact that there are cameras in place gives us peace of mind that everything’s being monitored properly. The transition between rooms (from under-2s to over-2s) was seamless for both of our girls—they settled in quickly and happily. Honestly, our kids love going, which says it all. Overall, we’d 100% recommend The Learning Ladder to anyone looking for a quality, caring, and well-run daycare. They've been such a great support to our family and we’re so grateful we found them!”

“This is the most caring, understanding, thoughtful, patient, kind and honest daycare I have ever come across. Not only are they all absolutely incredible teachers, they are even more amazing people. I have a sweet and energetic autistic son who was welcomed with open arms and warm hearts who has gone from a very shy boy to a confident, vibrant, rambunctious happy boy who can walk, run and climb with ease. I cannot thank this team at The Learning Ladder Howick enough. Putting him into daycare to return to work was a hard decision but they’ve been so understanding and helpful, trustworthy and open that I can relax knowing they’re in caring and capable hands. Thank you so so much!”

“I have never met such a beautiful owner, they are so loving caring clean and understanding. Would highly recommend. As to the other people out there who have nothing good to say about this place, I suggest you do your fat checking completely correctly due to the fact that these are such amazing people.”

“As soon as there is a comment that you don't like, you report it. This comment is then hidden. Okay, then I'll delete and resend it until you face up to your mistakes instead of continuing to bully others. It's probably the most disgusting place in the world. Some of these teachers are full of arrogance and prejudice. They seem to enjoy controlling and humiliating people when they detect vulnerability. The most important thing is that this place is not surrounded by understanding and respect, but by lies. Reply to your reply. 'Your review has been reported as this is a conflict of interest. We dont know you and suggest you take this down asap.' This review is based on actual events. Your so-called 'conflict of interest' is false accusations, only false, nothing but false. When you get a negative review, instead of asking what happened, you immediately start blaming and trying to control the person to delete it. That’s just so typical of you. It proved that what I’m saying is true. I WON'T delete it because you have hurt me deeply. Answer to your new reply. I'll call you when I've calmed myself down, and this comment has been shown long enough to prove your sincerity in the face of your mistakes.”
