About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at The Childrens Corner Howick, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Charlie has been attending the Children’s corner for close to a year now. We chose the Children’s Corner as it is a small preschool with fantastic teachers who have all been there a long time. We love the Montessori approach and Charlie has come so far since he started at the Children’s Corner. I am blown away with everything he has learnt in such a short time and it is wonderful to see his confidence building. Charlie loves coming to preschool which makes drop offs fantastic and we feel 100% happy as we know he is always in such good hands. The teachers are fantastic, always warm and welcoming, we can’t recommend the Children’s Corner enough. 5+ stars from us.”

“Both of our children have attended The Children's Corner. We were recommended this centre by an acquaintance and from our first visit we knew that this would be a great start for our children's education. The centre has wonderful, patient staff who really get to know your child and their learning styles. The centre is well organised, has excellent learning resources and really prepares your children for further learning. The children are happy and engaged. We feel as if we are part of a loving community rather than just a preschool.”

“The best preschool in Auckland! We are so glad to choose children's corner for our daughter! Teachers are nice and professional. Kids and their families are nice and my daughter made many friends here. She has spend a great time here and is ready to primary school! Thanks for all the teachers! The best choice we have ever made.”

“The Children's Cnr is such an amazing school and by far the best! My eldest daughter went through so many transitions in her short life and the teachers helped her through. The environment is a calm place allowing my daughter the best possible learning experience. He ability to communicate, interact, problem solve and self help skills has increased dramatically since attending this school.”

“My son has been in this preschool for only two months, but he already adjusts well here and even wants to go to preschool on weekends. Compared to a few preschools that have gone through, the biggest advantage here is that they are always open to encouraging family participation and listening to their opinions. This will enrich the children's experience and help parents feel comfortable. Of course, staffs are kind, not to mention their Montessori curriculum is great. As the only Montessori preschool east of Auckland, this is highly recommended.”
