What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Te Whare Rama | Light House Early Learning Centre Lyttelton Street, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“Our 16 month old son is very happy. He is excited to go to school and babbles all sort of sounds all the way home. There is a loving atmosphere between staff members which reflects in their care. We are grateful for the daily loving and educational efforts.”
“A lovely small daycare centre that feels like home. The teachers are great, very caring and extremely creative in the ways they support and stimulate learning and development in the children. We couldn't be happier with our choice of daycare. Thank you”
“Great centre! We were nervous starting our son at preschool for the first time. The team was very supportive and spent time to ensure a smooth transition (routines we had at home, interests, temperament). The level of care for the kids is far above what we expected and our son absolutely loves going to preschool which means we can relax and are happy sending him. It’s great to know he is cared for and is given the opportunity to do lots of fun learning activities (painting, playdough, Easter egg hunts, singing) as well as so much more!”
“Fantastic centre, the teachers are invested in our child's educational and emotional wellbeing. Our daughter loves to attend here and the team were supportive and gentle during her transition to preschool. Our 2 yr old currently attends Lyttleton St and this is a great environment for her because the centre only allows up to 3.5yr olds. So my child is with children her own age rather than being in a space with up to 5yr olds.”
“The teachers are so dedicated to making sure it is a special place four tamariki. They always greet the tamariki with a warm smile and nothing seems to be to hard. They are consistent in their approach with the wee ones and provide care and warmth for them. The physical environment is inviting and warm and the outdoor environment is the perfect size for the small ones. I feel welcomed as a parent and they genuinely care about how you are.”
