About Takaanini Early Learning
About Free Kindergarten
Free Kindergartens typically offer sessional or part-day early learning programmes led by fully qualified teachers, following Te Whāriki and emphasising learning through play, social interaction, and community involvement. These centres cater to families seeking high-quality education in a not-for-profit, community-based setting with strong ties to local whānau.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Takaanini Early Learning, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“My son has been at Takānini Early Learning for 3 months and is loving it, when we go to pick him up he doesnt want to leave. He has had an acceleration in development in speech and socialisation since he started. The teachers are caring, professional and genuinely are interested in the children. The other children are also inclusive and welcoming to new children. We don't want to leave the area while he is in daycare since this ECE is so good. The outside play area is large and varied. Security is excellent. There are no hidden areas resulting in a safe environment. Meals are included.”
“My son attended this daycare from about 21 months to 42 months. Due to our family moving, we are no longer able to send him here, but I have always recommended this place to my neighbors and friends, hoping that others will know about it as well. My child really loved the teachers and friends here. As a parent, I also appreciated how the teachers always provided updates on what happened with my child each day. Melissa, who handles reception, was always kind and gave us helpful information. Additionally, the food for the children is excellent. All the teachers there care for the kids with love. Through this post, I would like to express my gratitude once again.”
“Great teacher ratios, kind and experienced teachers. Well kept, modern facilities and large outdoor play area. My son is really happy there, thank you 🙂”
