About Small Kauri Early Childhood Education Centre
About Education & Care Service
Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Small Kauri Early Childhood Education Centre, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“Our daughter attended Small Kauri for 3 years and absolutely loved it. The teachers are very experienced and so lovely, really became like family as they got to know our daughter and helped her to grow and learn. Highly recommend!!”
“Small Kauri is a wonderful space that has a family feel, we feel lucky to have our son here and know he is getting a high standard of care. The teachers are so kind and do a lot to understand your child and adapt to their needs in so many ways, and it’s great the higher teacher student ratios so children are well looked after. As one of the younger students, our son has many older “siblings” here who are learning nurturing and leadership skills naturally by being together instead of placed in separate age groups, it’s also nice to know that my son will have this consistent environment for his time here and not need to change rooms as he grows. A very unique and special environment, we definitely made the right choice in Small Kauri”
“The best early education you can get in the bridge. Amazing team of loving teachers and great experiences for your little one. Both my nephews attended and I enjoyed picking them up after their days were filled with learning and wonderful experiences. Thank you Small kauri for always supporting and helping us raise two confident and exploring kids.”
“Small Kauri was recommended to us as an excellent centre by friends whose children attended and by another who knew the staff professionally as a fellow early childhood teacher. These recommendations led us to look into the centre and we found that they have the highest rating on their ERO reports, great teacher to child ratios, and all teachers are fully qualified, highly experienced and passionate about their vocation. Staff turnover is extremely low allowing for ongoing relationships and being a small, mixed age centre relationships with teachers and other children are not interrupted by changing age rooms. Our son has formed strong bonds with all of the staff and is throroughly enjoying spending time with the “big boys” at Small Kauri. His motor, social and language development has progressed rapidly since he started owing to the rich and varied, child-centred learning experiences that are offered each day. Most importantly, he is happy and confident at Small Kauri and we are very grateful to have found this centre.”
“My son attended and now my daughter attend Small Kauri. The teachers are amazing. Its not a new big centre but rather a lovely, intimate and welcoming place. Its all l about quality caregiving where learning, discovery and a sense of community is encouraged. My 20 month old daughter loves it and marches in 3 times a week looking forward to seeing her teachers and new friends”
