What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Pukekohe Early Learning Centre, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“When we first moved to Pukekohe we didn’t know where to send our daughter but when I found Pukekohe early learning centre I knew immediately this was the right place. All of the staff are lovely and approachable. They serve amazing healthy food that even my fussy eater loves. We love that they do cloth nappies! There is such a wide variety in play activities for the children both indoor and outdoor. My daughter is excited to go to daycare in the mornings”

“Moved to Pukekohe about 4 months ago, visited more than 5 daycares and Pukekohe Early Learning Centre is the one that I wanted to enrol immediately without any hesitation. The centre provides different nutritional meals every day. Lots of different activities and visits and walks. The teachers there are so nice and patient with children. They care every single one of them and look for the children’s interest and find out the best way of development for them. This is also the reason my child got so easy to transit and fit into the new environment. There is always feedback from the teacher to surprise me with how much my child can do without mum and dad! Now my child has lots of new friends and always looking forward to going to preschool!”

“At first, I struggled with the idea of my son going to daycare, but after him now being at PELC for a year, I wouldn't have changed a thing! I am so happy that my son attends a daycare where the teachers are so knowledgeable, caring, loving, patient and trustworthy. I know all the staff have my boy's best intentions at heart & he has learnt SO much since starting. Would recommend to any parent looking for a daycare.”

“Friendly and welcoming staff who work well as a team and communicate well. The team worked hard to help settle our daughter in and she loves attending. We appreciate the lovely learning stories written by her Kaiako. Super handy they have a nappy service and provide nutritious food. There’s a nice indoor and outdoor spaces to play and learn. We would highly recommend the centre.”
