About Playcentre

These centres cater to parents who want to be actively involved in their child’s early education, enjoying a supportive, cooperative model that values whānau participation and mixed-age play.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Pakuranga-Rahihi Playcentre, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Absolutely loved it!!! I felt welcomed since the first visit. It was overwhelming at the beginning; to get know new faces, new environment and huge selection of opportunities to play, but everyone was so kind and friendly, that I and my daughter have settled in quickly. I believe in saying, that it takes a village to raise a child and I felt, that I found my village! Pakuranga playcentre can be proud of wonderful mums and dads, astounding equipment and lovely atmosphere. I hoped to raise a global child, so I really appreciated having little friends from so many different countries. Sofi has learnt so much by copying other kids and I have learnt a lot about her and about child development trough play in general. I feel, that I am much better mum now :) I loved afternoon tea; Sofi finally learnt to sit as other kids did, we both learnt many new songs and I got more ideas for snacks ;) What an advantage of having a place, where your kid can try playing with mud, colours, bubbles, glue and your home stays clean 😁 The little contribution, you pay, is almost like a joke for what you can get 🤭 If you think about joining, just book first three visits for free and experience it by yourself, wheter this is the right place for you and your family. I wish you lots of playful days! Thank you so much Pakuranga Playcentre mums, dads and little ones, we are missing you a lot ❤️”

“I love Pakuranga-rahihi Playcentre! As an immigrant without family around I feel Playcentre helps me to feel a place I can belong to and I am surrounded by amazing people that are like my family. We all care about each other. My kids are happy learning through play. Also in terms of education, I really feel that only Playcentre is a child-led and child-initiated learning, that you hardly can find anywhere else. Kids innate skills to learn and creativity are respected. And we are enough lucky to share their journey and have fun with them. As a designer I feel that Playcentre has given me a creativity booster. And as a mother I call Playcentre my happy place.”

“We arrived to the country only 6 months ago, and Playcentre has been an amazing place for us, from day one we felt welcome and value. It's a great way to meet people and develop communication skills. Been part of the playcentre family and having this awesome people for guidance during this adaptation process it's priceless. Our daughter has learn so much, she is now talking basic english, and the best of all, she has learned only through play. It's a great environment for learning, children develop all kind of skills. They become creative, amazing, confident children.”
