About Oratia Kindergarten
About Free Kindergarten
Free Kindergartens typically offer sessional or part-day early learning programmes led by fully qualified teachers, following Te Whāriki and emphasising learning through play, social interaction, and community involvement. These centres cater to families seeking high-quality education in a not-for-profit, community-based setting with strong ties to local whānau.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Oratia Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“Prior to enrolling my son to Oratia Kindergarten, we were having a hard time transitioning him. He always said he did not want to go to school. I don’t know if it’s a developmental milestone that he overcame that made his experience in Oratia Kindergarten very positive but I could definitely say that it was a good decision to enrol him here. The teachers were so helpful in ensuring that my son was transitioning into Kindy well. They had tools to help my son integrate with the other kids and the routine. They were so easy to talk to. They have given sound advice for me. They encouraged my son’s individuality and interests and provided opportunities to learn and grow. The facility is also something that I loved. The kids are surrounded by nature and can see the Waitakere ranges. The playground is so good and they had gardens that kids had the chance to experience working with. I would highly recommend Oratia Kindy. If there was something I could do differently, it would be to have chosen this school earlier on.”
“Awesome kindy. Great staff. Lovely, playful learning environment.”
