About Ngahina Kindergarten
About Free Kindergarten
Free Kindergartens typically offer sessional or part-day early learning programmes led by fully qualified teachers, following Te Whāriki and emphasising learning through play, social interaction, and community involvement. These centres cater to families seeking high-quality education in a not-for-profit, community-based setting with strong ties to local whānau.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Ngahina Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“Principle needs to learn some manners, there's no need to be rude or aggressive. Just pulled into the disabled parking to pick my nephew whos disabled. They pull in next to me on the yellow lines space which is extra space for prams, wheel chairs ect... gets out and asks aggressively "can i help you? i asked why? Then raises his voice an says again "CAN I HELP YOU!" meanwhile ive got a sleeping baby in the back that he can clearly see, he said "Your in our parking lot? Im the principle of this school!" As if i wasn't allowed to be there like i was doing something wrong, told him "im picking up my nephew" then he walked off without saying anything leaving the car on the lines adjacent to the disabled parking, he didn't have a permit in the window either, thankfully my nephew doesn't require wheelchair access to get in the car otherwise we would off been blocked in. Please refrain from parking in the disabled spot in future as this is intended for permit holders only who require the extra space to get their kids in/out of the car, as principle you should lead by example an show respect in an out of the school property. You may be the principle but that doesn't give you the right to park anywhere you like.”
“Today was my daughters last day at Ngahina Kindergarten and I cant thank the amazing ladies over the last year who go beyond and more. I leave with such a heavy heart and saddened. They do such a beautiful job of creating a space that is not only safe for the Tamariki but for the family too! I can't recommend this Kindergarten enough! I'll see you ladies soon ❤️”

“Love Ngahina Kindergarten. My 5year old started at 2.5yrs old and has just moved to school, my second has just started at 2yrs old. I was unsure as he seemed so young but the staff are all so friendly, welcoming and amazing and I am happy to drop him off at Ngahina for the day.”
