About Minnows Kindergarten
About Education & Care Service
Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Minnows Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“Our daughter started at Minnows earlier this year and it has been a really positive experience. She has grown in confidence over this time and I put that down to the caring and nurturing environment that Nirmala and the other wonderful teachers have created.”
“Nirmala and her staff have gone above and beyond to help our little one settle in. Where they struggled at another daycare, the calm atmosphere at Minnows, and warmth of the staff have made it an easy transition. Highly recommend this lovely kindy.”
“I’m so grateful to the amazing team at Minnows! My son had a tough time at his previous daycare and I was nervous about moving him, but the teachers here made the transition so smooth. They welcomed him with open arms, took the time to get to know him, and created such a calm and supportive environment. He has settled in beautifully and now looks forward to going every day. I can’t thank the staff enough for their patience, kindness and dedication, they’ve made such a difference for our family. Highly recommend!”
“We have only recently moved into the area and both our 2yo boy and 4yo girl attend Minnows. They are always so excited to get going for kindy in the morning's and are both thriving in their new surroundings. Nirmala and her amazing team do an incredible job keeping children and activities as close as they can to each child's age and development. We love hearing our 4yo chatting about planet's or whichever science experiment they did that day.”
“Our now 2 and a half year old has had a great experience 3 mornings a week at Minnows since we arrived in Omokoroa in March 2024. We chose Minnows as a smaller setting with a relaxed family type atmosphere. Although slightly larger than our boy’s previous setting he settled in very smoothly and now seems to genuinely love his Minnows days. From previous experience the opportunity for toddlers to mingle with older and younger children seems good for their social learning and development. We are so impressed with all the teachers who have a really warm and nurturing approach. Thank you to Nirmala and all the team.”
