About Mahurangi Kindergarten
About Free Kindergarten
Free Kindergartens typically offer sessional or part-day early learning programmes led by fully qualified teachers, following Te Whāriki and emphasising learning through play, social interaction, and community involvement. These centres cater to families seeking high-quality education in a not-for-profit, community-based setting with strong ties to local whānau.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Mahurangi Kindergarten, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“Jon loves this Kindie. Teacher's are warm, accommodating, kind, considerate, loving, and compassionate. My son loves the opportunity given by the teachers for him to grow holistically, like providing varied activities to develop different skills. Kindie teachers helped him in his social skills , llowing more opportunities for kkidsto develop friendships. They paired other kid's to play with him during his first few months. He's not talking straight yet , ut I and my husband believe that he had learned and improved his speaking skills at Mahurangi Kindergarten. The teacher's allowed him to develop his Leadership Skills too by assigning him task like calling other kids in the morning before mat time. By giving him this opportunity to lead, he feels Belongingness. Based on my son's experience so far at Mahurangi Kindergarten, he didn't go home disappointed and sad because other kids didn't include him in playing instead the kids told him that he doesn't have a friend and he is not allowed to play with them ,this was his experienced after transferring to another Kindie. That's why he is always longing to go back to Mahu Kindie. However, we relocated to another place. He's looking forward now going to his primary school that gives the same warm atmosphere like Mahu Kindie. We're very grateful to all teachers, relievers, and staff of Mahurangi Kindergarten. We give them 10/10 a perfect score. This Kindie is a friendly, inclusive kindergarten for everyone. Highly recommend. Thank you so much. Jon always remembers his teachers who helped him grow.”
