About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Kohi Learning Centre, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Pool communication / management We visited and signed up on the waiting list 6 months ago. The first impression were good so we planned everything for our son Jerry to start going there right before wife and I getting back to the office. Having made sure the place with a set starting date will be ours, we plunged ourselves into other stuff no longer checking with other childcares. Slightly more than one month before the starting date I phoned in to double check the starting date and everything. I was told the person able to answer it wasn’t there and they will phone back. But only until one week later I received only an email saying we no longer have the place. I haven’t even got a phone call explaining this. Now it’s only less than a month before mom getting back to work & dad finishing working from home and getting back to the office. We’ll have to find arrangement for Jerry with all nearby centres having a several months long waiting list.”

“My son started going here from 2 yrs and 9 months and my daughter started when she was 8 months. They both loved this place straight away. Every teacher is doing a great job and loves the children. They put there heart to the children and the work. They plan everyday for children’s fun activities. They also go out for bush walk, beach walk, or walk to Bakery. There is not many centers like this. A local daycare has their way to run the business. I'm so happy for my children. They are very lucky.”
