About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Kids at Play Childcare Centre, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Our daughter has thrived at Kids at Play, and sometimes asks to go on the weekend! Wonderful group of dedicated teachers, lots of interesting and varied activities, home-cooked food, pet bunny, and our daughter is encouraged to explore, create, and be active with her friends. Highly recommended.”

“My granddaughter goes to this excellent day-care centre and loves it. Besides being well cared for she gets educational input as well as great socialising with the other children. The staff are very caring and very professional. This is an impressive place that truly cares for the precious assets with which they are entrusted.”

“My little boy started at Kids at Play when he was 9months. I knew a bit about KAP from my niece &nephew attending prior. I was very thrilled and it felt comforting to know some of the teachers were still there including the wonderful chef May, 2 Senior supervisors, The Manager and senior teachers among others. The nutritious, heart ticked food made by May is amazing with a vast menu full of goodness! The low staff turnover was was great to know that my boy would have those friendly familiar faces for a length of time! Also the great ratio of teachers to babies in Under2’s was good to see. The love, care, friendliness and safety felt on my first trial visit with my son was enough to make my decision. What we have gained as parents and what my son has learnt & the friendships he has made over the past 4 years will set him on his educational path for the next 12-13 years of further learning and education. So many amazing tools used to learn and the free play and fun, exciting activities he participates in he just loves and our faces light up to hear him tell us each day what he does in transition to school group! We are certainly going to miss KAP, the teachers and his little buddies, he will be sad to leave for school in october.”

“My son has been at Kids at Play since he was 6 months old and has absolutely thrived under the centre's environment and fantastic staff. What struck me from our first tour was the absolute professionalism, love and care that the staff had for the children, this was also evident in the culture and processes that underpin the entire operations which makes you so much more confident as a parent when leaving your little one. The nutritionist designed fresh prepared menu by the Centre cook May is also excellent. And I love the fact that as a non profit parent led incorporated society all profits are invested back into the centre and the kids. My little boy has great besties and it is a challenge to get him to leave each day, I couldn't be happier with KAP!”
