About Education & Care Service
Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Fountain City Montessori, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“A great Montessori day care. I would highly recommend. My son has been going to Fountain City Montessori since he was 10 months old and has been really enjoying it. The Montessori teaching philosophy is greatly beneficial, teaching self chosen guided play, with responsibility and consequences woven in. As part of the teaching here my son is now great at helping me to tidy up and really enjoys daily household activities. They have a seperate area for under 2s to ensure the smaller children aren’t overwhelmed. Also all meals for the day are provided which is an under rated bonus. It saves us a lot of food prep time taking some burden off as both myself and my wife work.”
“I am very satisfied with the FCM family. I have a 2yo boy and he attend since his 7 months. I couldn't be happier. I appreciate all the team for looking after my son with so much care! Highly recommended!”
“I DO NOT RECOMMEND . i was taking care of my friends daughter for 3 days, dropping off and picking her up from here. The most shocking thing i saw with my own eyes is a big girl age around 11 to 13 having viral conjunctivitis eye infection and sick playing and interacting around health kids. Turns out she was in term break and mum works here and let her sick and contagious girl with health kid. I asked, and they said she won't be here for long but the girl for there for all the three days i dropping. Really not following the health and safety protocol. I didn't say anything as it's not my kids who are attending. And after seeing that i would not let my kids go there. BIG NO NO”
“A warm and friendly environment that helps to encourage children's indepence and supports their learning and development in a personal way. The staff are engaging and engaged, regardless of classroom, whether they are admin or teacher... they know all the children. As a parent I feel a part of the Fountain City family and my daughter who joined at 8 months old has lovely relationships with the other children and staff there. A caring environment, they are more than happy to take time out to discuss our daughters needs and help with her routine. Wholeheartedly recommend as a place that genuinely cares.”
“Thoroughly recommend . Our eldest had been in two regular daycare centres prior to us enrolling her at Fountain City Montessori at the age of 3. The change we saw in her when we swapped her over has been phenomenal. She has just flourished in the calm, child directed environment they provide. We just love how independent she has become with such an intrinsic love for learning. Our son is now in the baby room and we are so happy he gets to be immersed in this environment right through his pre-school years.”
