About Eden/Epsom Playcentre
About Playcentre
Playcentres are parent-led early childhood services where families work alongside trained educators to support children’s learning through play, offering a warm, community-driven environment. These centres cater to parents who want to be actively involved in their child’s early education, enjoying a supportive, cooperative model that values whānau participation and mixed-age play.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Eden/Epsom Playcentre, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“My daughter attends and has grown so much in confidence, since starting her playcentre journey 9mths ago. The support of the other parents has been invaluable. The diverse and well resourced play areas cater to everyone from quite story time to fun messy play. The sky is the limit! The Centre is located in a great area, close to Mt Eden Village. Plenty of parking available.”
“Our family is part of the Eden Epsom Playcentre whanau at the moment, and we've been members of the wider Playcentre family for almost 10 years. Playcentre has played an important and considerable role in nurturing the formative years of both of my boys. My older son started with the SPACE programme when he was 3 months old, joined Playcentre when he was 18 months old and graduated when he was 5 before he transitioned to primary school (SPACE is an informative and supportive pre-Playcentre parenting programme which prepares inexperienced parents with useful skills to enhance the start of their parenting journey). My younger son joined Playcentre at 6 weeks old and still loves every moment there, soaking up countless rich learning experiences. He will graduate next year. I've formed lifelong friendships, given and received timely support in times of need, and have learned valuable skills that I believe have enhanced my parenting techniques beyond measure. Sharing this joyful and sometimes challenging parenting journey with like-minded peers has been a privilege. It's hard to quantify the value of this special organisation. I'm so happy to have been a part of it for this chapter of my life.”
“I'm a current member of Eden Epsom Playcentre and attend two days a week with my girls who are two and 5 months. I have been a member for nearly a year. The Playcentre whanau is supportive and attending Playcentre is fun part of our week. The resources at the Playcentre and the range of activities we offer the children is vast and really only limited by our imagination.”
“Couldn't get by without Playcentre. Lovely people, so nice and welcoming to all, a real extention to the family”
