What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Busy Bees Terrace End, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“We love busy bees and what they have done to help ensure my family have the best support we need to keep us all on track. And the love they have for our daughter and our son who doesn’t attend is beyond me! Your children will absolutely be loved and cared for while at busy bees. Debbie was such a great listener when it came to an incident. She listened, she worked with me, she helped me and Debbie made sure we were okay before leaving.”

“It has been quite a journey with cubbyhouse for my child who was there for over 2 years. My child absolutely had their favorites in terms of teachers on site however the things that reflect my review today are the way the centre operates and handled some queries. 1. This site had a new viral bug/ sickness going on almost every 2 weeks. My child contracted hands foot and mouth off some children in the centre and is still not well after starting primary school. I always noticed double standards between the teachers who had their own kids in the centre seemed to give zero attention regardless of being the only teacher in the room if the child was assigned to them or not. 2. I understand that it's a hard time for all kiwi businesses due to covid, however if my child contracts bugs and sickness through the centre and gets unwell so is not allowed to be there, while the fees charged for the days were heartbreaking to pay for a service you did not receive, at times for weeks. I understand the concept of paying staff but not realizing the issue is their own. Constant outbreaks at the site were unpleasant and very nerve wrecking in deciding to send the child there or go to work. 3. Bullying and a few injuries were constantly not reported. I would find bruises and bite marks on my child and upon questioning it would be the same names that they report every time. Feeding this back made no difference as the behavior of children concerned didn't change nor any action was taken. I am glad my child no longer is part of this daycare anymore and the reason for not changing my child to another daycare was for the friends and teacher attachments my child had at this centre. Will never recommend this site to anyone in the future after my experience.”
