What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at BestStart Oraha Road, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“The best centre in Auckland!!!! Nothing will beat this centre! Amazing receptionist, teachers and in the best area: Kumeu. Everyone is so lovely and so kind! I’m so sad I had to take my little one out of this daycare only because it was far for me as I’ve just had a newborn. I highly recommend this centre. It’s super clean and they have the best outdoor play area. Receptionist Ravlin is the kindest person you will come across. This centre I will always love and missing it so much already!!! I hope one day we can come back to this centre. Thank you BestStart Kumeu.”
“Beststart Oraha has been incredible care and education for my daughter for over 3 years. The teachers are caring, passionate and the centre feels like an extension of home and part of the community.”
“One of the best decisions we have made! Our two boys couldn’t be happier, they genuinely look forward to kindy every morning and that has given us such a peace. The teachers and staff are so supportive, positive, kind and joyful. They go above and beyond to support not only your child, but the whole family. We also really love that Oraha is a culturally diverse community which gives us our boys a rich experience. The Centre is welcoming, clean and the classrooms are well appointed. The huge outdoor area is probably our boys favourite space, which is evident in the amount of sand they bring home in their boots daily haha Love love love that messy, wet, muddy, sandy, sensory play is a daily thing here, so important for boys to muck in and learn through unrestricted play. I’m extremely intentional (and picky) about my children and their environment, I didn’t choose lightly but I’m so happy it’s paid off 💗”
“We've been with Best Start Oraha Road for almost two years. Both of our children have loved it! There was a short period of teacher turnover (which has happened at every other daycare we've been with in the past anyway!) but the team on board now is incredible, filled with empathy for individual children and so much patience. Since our son started school we worried about our daughter's remaining journey but thanks to her wonderful attentive teachers, she is thriving - always eager to go each day and bounces into the centre. Our family feel very supported, and we've been seriously impressed with the range of activities and special events, and with each new team member that joins there's even more to celebrate. The centre is filled with good vibes and very well organised. Communication is excellent and the management team are exceptional.”
“We’re really happy with the care our son gets at Best Start Oraha Road. He absolutely loves going every day—so much so that he even asks to go on weekends! The kaiako are fantastic - genuinely invested in the kids’ growth and well-being. They've created a space where our son feels challenged yet encouraged and supported. It’s obvious they love what they do - they’re always professional and approachable, and they’ve built a great relationship with our family. We’re grateful for everything they’ve done for our son, and we’re excited that our younger daughter will be joining soon. If you’re looking for a daycare where your child will feel excited to learn, this is definitely the place. Highly recommended :)”
