What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at BestStart Dilworth Avenue, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“BestStart Dilworth provides a nurturing, well-organised environment with dedicated teachers and separate rooms, making my son’s transition smooth and positive. The teachers and manager partner openly with families, and their sound understanding of Te Whāriki shapes every part of the day. My son feels safe, valued, and that he belongs—a true reflection of the Te Whāriki principle of belonging (Mana Whenua). The Reggio Emilia approach is woven into practice—teachers notice children's strengths and interests, encourage exploration, and support learning through projects and real-life experiences. Children’s voices are respected, and their ideas help shape the learning environment. Teachers see each child as capable and competent, supporting them to work together and develop knowledge in meaningful ways. This respectful, child-centered approach truly brings Te Whāriki’s aspirations to life for every family.”
“This is a really really good little daycare. The staff and facilities are great and my son loved his time here. I would highly recommend Best Start Dilworth for those looking for for child care in this part of town!”
“Our daughter moved to this beautiful center about 18 months ago and we have never looked back. Every teacher that has worked along side her have blown me away with their genuine care and love!! Our girl has thrived here at Dilworth through the love and also the offering of so many extra classes. She has had weekly Rugby Tots lessons, Fairy Clare and visits from local children. I have seen her grown immensely in confidence. When she has a hard morning, the teachers are always there for extra cuddles. She has developed some strong bonds with the amazing teachers and they have encouraged her friendships too. We could never be more grateful for everything they have done. Highly recommended.”
“We moved from the UK earlier this year and the first thing we sorted was daycare. The transition from the UK was absolutely smooth thanks to all of the caring teachers at beststart. I could not recommend it more. I drop my kids off each morning and the affection the teachers show them gives me such a sense of reassurance. They spend more time at daycare than they do at home and I am so grateful to each and everyone of the teachers who give their time and love to the children there. I asked my daughter what she will miss most about New Zealand when we leave and she said "my school, because my friends and my teachers are there." They have thrived in the environment. The teachers know them both so well and take the time every day to give us a description of what the kids did that day. They focus on education but a lot on fun. With such excellent facilities the kids get to play outside and inside with ease and have access to weekly rugby tots and jumping beans for smaller ones. I wish we could bring best start back home with us.”
“I will highly recommend Best Start Dilworth to my friends and family. My kid moved here from Best Start Newmarket after it's closure, she lost her favourite teachers and friends. We were very worried about how she is going to feel in new Best Start. But the Teachers, Center Manager and Admin at Best Start Dilworth are AMAZING. They welcomed my kid with open arms and warm cuddles. She got use to place so quickly and in no time she have made new friends and now Best Start Dilworth is like a second home to her. She loves to spend time here at Dilworth center with all the lovely and highly trained teachers. The teachers keep us posted about her achievements, learning goals and all the fun she does at the center. Those Big Smiles in the pictures make my day special ❤️💗 Every morning when i leave my kid, i am satisfied, i know she is in beautiful hands and will have a lovely day. At the end of days its so nice to listen to her stories. She Learns, Plays, does Yoga, dance and love her Rugby Tots Mondays.
