About Education & Care Service

Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.

What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Ashburton Montessori Preschool, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

“Our kids absolutely love this Montessori preschool. The teachers are warm, patient, and genuinely invested in helping each child grow. We really like the Montessori approach here — it teaches independence, confidence, and curiosity in such a gentle, encouraging way. It’s been amazing to see how capable our child has become with everyday tasks and problem-solving. The environment feels calm and nurturing, and you can tell the staff take real pride in what they do. Highly recommend!”

“We bring our little girl over from tinwald for this preschool because it is that wonderful. The teachers are so caring, smart and well informed in child development, with a special focus on the Montessori method. We took miss 4 to a lot of preschools to look around but she felt really intimidated by most settings, instead and the Ashburton Montessori she has thrives, mostly because the of the wonderful teachers who always make time to help her grow and learn.”
