About Active Explorers Grey Street
About Education & Care Service
Education & Care Services are mainstream early learning centres that offer full-day or part-day care with a structured curriculum, qualified teachers, and a focus on learning through play. They cater to families needing flexible childcare options and wanting a balanced approach that supports social, physical, and early academic development in a diverse environment.
What Is 20 Hours ECE funding?
20 Hours ECE is a government-funded initiative that helps reduce the cost of early childhood education for families with tamariki aged 3–5. Eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of funded care and education each week at participating services. Centres can set their own enrolment patterns and may ask for optional charges, but the funded hours themselves should be free of compulsory fees. If you are unsure how this works at Active Explorers Grey Street, it is best to ask the centre directly how they apply 20 Hours ECE.

Parent Reviews
“Where do I even start??? Our children have been attending this daycare for 6 years (3 children) and still currently attending and they have all absolutely loved it here at Active Explorers Grey St. Our school girl asks if she can go in the school holidays 😅 From the babies room to the big kids room the teachers are supportive and encouraging to all that attend. The teachers have great communication skills when it comes to the children's learning goals and this has helped us so much with our boy. He is such a great kid, making mostly good choices (we can't be perfect all the time) and is learning everyday to be and show the best of himself. The growth he has showed us over the last 6months is amazing. Both the kids love it and we do too. It has such a family vibe and I can always walk away knowing that my kids will get cuddles if they are hurt or sad or just missing mum or dad. They have daycare mummas that will protect them like their own and give the next best hug. I cannot speak more highly of Grey St. Bonus that they feed the kids too, so no lunchboxes until they are in rising 5s!! In for the win there! 😊”
“Great learning facility. Children and happy and well cared for, at least my child definitely is! Chef is happy to make meal changes to accommodate us. ALL the staff are always so kind and caring and loving of the tamariki and make sure all their needs are met. Will continue here through to school years as we are very happy with the care :)”
“We have had such a wonderful experience at Active Explorers Grey St! From our first visits the care we have received has been nothing but excellent. We have been extremely impressed with the daily activities, excursions and experiences that are enjoyed by all. He has build such a great relationship with each teacher; they are patient and compassionate, and it has been a joy to see him flourish in a supportive and engaging centre.”
“Love the use of te reo maori, great teachers who spend time making meaningful relationships, good nutritional kai, great facility with so many opportunities for tamariki to be creative, explore their environment and develop their skills!”
“This daycare centre and all the staff are wonderfully awesome. Have been apart of the Grey street family for over 4years now and wouldn’t take my children anywhere else. The staff and Manager manage this centre with such pride.. The meals made fresh and healthy for our Tamariki daily and done in a very clean environment. This is another place my children call home and family. Always respected and welcomed every morning with beautiful smiles and also when it’s the end of the day. I can’t say anything bad about this centre and I’d highly recommend it to anybody 😁😁🥰”
